The Country Club of the South Charity Guild's fouth annual ProAm tennis tournament, ServeAtlanta, served up some spectacular tennis the weekend of May 18-20th.
ServeAtlanta began on Friday evening with our “Players and Sponsors Reception” and continued through exciting match play, auction of fabulous prizes and party on Saturday. It concluded with the highly popular Calcutta, championship matches and awards presentation on Sunday.
This year’s ProAm featured top playing professionals Lucas Melero, Jonas Jarvholm and Matt Cozad, quarter-finalist in doubles at the “Atlanta Clay Court Challenger” and along with women’s professionals former top 20 NCAA player Anita Pearson and All-SEC player Lynn Yin-Tan.
Supported by RSUI, Comcast and the PGA Tour Superstore and 15 other local businesses, 96 players competed in a two-day round robin tournament. The top teams from four divisions advanced to the semi-finals on Sunday. This year’s winners are:
Men’s A – Steve Kostyshen (Am) and Jonas Jarvholm defeating Stefan Bente (Am) and Sven ) Plass.
Men’s B – Scott Greenberg (Am) and Paul Groth defeating George Holdrige (Am) and John Hanna.
Women’s A – Sandie Cappai (Am) and Anita Pearson defeating Sally Cutler (Am) and Zsofi Golopencza.
Women’s B – Denise Templeton (Am) and Megan Cozad defeating Sue Besh (Am) and Klara Miklikova
The three day event raised over $55,000 for local charities selected by the Guild as beneficiaries for 2007. The 2007 beneficiaries are: Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, Cure Childhood Cancer, Fragile Kids Foundation, Georgia Transplant Foundation and North Fulton Community Charities.
Through corporate and personal contributions, CCS Charity Guild has donated over to $3 million to Atlanta area charities since its inception in 1988. In 2006, the Guild netted over a quarter of a million dollars for its beneficiaries.
